The highest honour the National Laureate Programme bestows — named for a physician whose courage protected a nation.
Her story
Dr Stella Ameyo Adadevoh (1956–2014) was a Nigerian physician whose professional judgment, moral courage and selfless service during the 2014 Ebola outbreak in Lagos saved countless lives and prevented a national catastrophe.
By identifying and containing Nigeria's index Ebola case, she placed the welfare of her patients and the Nigerian public above personal risk — embodying the highest ideals of medical ethics and national duty.
The National Laureate Programme honours her legacy through a dedicated excellence award conferred upon the laureate whose research and conduct most embody integrity, national service and the protection of the public good.
Purpose
To recognise scholarship that combines intellectual excellence with moral courage and service to the Nigerian people.
Selection
Conferred by the National Laureate Committee upon the laureate whose work and character best reflect Dr Adadevoh's values of integrity and public service.
Recognition
The recipient receives the Adadevoh Medal, a permanent place in the programme's honour roll, and national recognition at the Laureate Gala.
